Occupational Therapists

At City Hospice our occupational therapists assess our patients’ daily activities with a view to improving or maintaining their independence and dignity including household tasks and personal care. We can provide patient equipment, such as grab rails, hoists, ramps and a wide range of other equipment.

We offer advice and recommend alterations to patients’ homes with the focus always on keeping the independence and dignity of our patients and keeping them in their homes.

Our occupational therapists also offer fatigue, anxiety and breathlessness management programmes to complement medication and support from our Nurses and Doctors.

How an Occupational Therapist could help you

  • We can visit you at home and complete an environmental assessment and make suggestions on how to promote safety within the home e.g. referring to supporting agencies for grab rails or other adaptations.
  • We can identify assistive equipment which may support you in completing daily activities such as showering, dressing, getting in and out of bed and toileting.
  • We can complete wheelchair assessments if fatigue or decreased mobility are stopping you from doing the things you want and/or need to do e.g., going out to the local shops or for walks in the park.
  • We can provide advice to you and your family on safe manual handling techniques so that injuries are prevented.
  • If you are struggling with fatigue, anxiety or breathlessness, we can discuss your current coping strategies and work with you to identify helpful coping strategies that may support you.

As Occupational Therapists we work with you to support you in maintaining independence with all of the activities that give structure and meaning to your day. We have put together useful guides to help you with your day to day activities.
