Keen walkers from housing group and Platinum PledgersWates Residential, took to Trekfest: The Beacons to raise money for City Hospice, Cardiff’s local hospice.

The group of eight raised over £2,000 for the charity by trekking 25k which took around 6-8 hours to complete.

Hazel Harris, (Assistant Surveyor), said “I wanted to take part so that I could push myself physically and mentally which I did, as well as getting lots of blisters and aching legs to go with it! We recently lost a colleague to cancer so I know how much support a hospice gives to both the patient and family so City Hospice was a great reason to do Trekfest.”

Lucas Chinn, (Design Manager), another member of the group said, “I wanted to take part in this challenge as the money would be going to a worthwhile cause. It was such a rewarding feeling crossing the finishing line.”

Jeremy Gorman (Regional Commercial Manager) agreed that it was a good day and felt he could do it again, but not on the same day!

City Hospice is a registered charity at the heart of Cardiff, providing specialist medical, nursing and end of life care to patients in their own homes. Formerly George Thomas Hospice Care, we offer counselling (to adults and children), welfare benefits advice and day centres with a range of activities. City Hospice is the only at-home palliative care provider for the city of Cardiff and needs to raise a total of £1.5m to keep providing these specialist services.

Nicky Piper, our Corporate Relationships Manager at City Hospice, would like to thank Wates Residential for taking on this challenge. “As members of our Platinum Pledge club, they have been so supportive over the last year, taking part in events, buying tables at our St David’s Day Lunch and volunteering with us too.

They always have a good time while raising money for City Hospice. This recent Trekfest really tested them, but they always come through for us. A huge thank you for their support and for helping us to continue helping patients and families across Cardiff.”
