Two employees, Emily and Mark embarked on a skydive to honour the memory of their dear partner and friend, Obi and to raise vital funds for City Hospice.
In November 2023, Owain sadly passed away after his courageous battle with bowel cancer. Throughout his final months, City Hospice provided Owain with specialist palliative care.
Emily, Owain’s partner, said:
“Owain never complained and always remained optimistic despite his diagnosis, City Hospice truly lightened the weight of his illness.
He would also be laughing his head off at the thought of me falling out a plane from 15,000 feet but I want to raise funds in his name to help City Hospice continue their work so they can support more people like they did us”.
In a gesture of solidarity, Mark, a close friend of Obi’s, joins Emily in this sky-high endeavour. Mark echoes Emily’s sentiments, emphasising the remarkable care and dignity with which City Hospice treated Obi. “I want to honour Obi’s memory and support City Hospice’s vital work,” Mark shares. “Obi would have done the same for me.”
Corporate Relationships Manager, Nicky Piper said, “Thank you so much to Emily & Mark for taking on a skydive for City Hospice. I’m sure it will be an unforgettable experience in memory of Obi and every penny raised will help us continue to care for Cardiff. Thank you, both!”

City Hospice needs to raise over £3 million each year to provide our services free of charge. The funds raised will ensure the charity can continue to care for patients and their families during what can be the most challenging time of their lives.
