City Hospice would like to thank Lance Osgood for his 16 years of voluntary service, after he retired last week.

Lance has been volunteering since 2003, helping the Counselling Team to speak to patients and families. He used to ring clients from home to check on them and see how they were doing. Since our Bereavement Coffee Mornings began four years ago, Lance has given his time to come along, chat and have a cup of tea with bereaved people. He’s supported many people through difficult times and has made friends through his time volunteering.

On being presented with a recognition award for his service, he said “My time at City Hospice has been very rewarding. I’ve received so much out of the experience and met some very nice people along the way. Times have changed from the days I used to ring people from my living room to check up on them. I was always known as ‘the man at the end of the phone’. I’ve enjoyed every minute of being here and volunteering so thank you.”

Sarah Bull, Head of Counselling and Bereavement said, “Lance has been such a big help to us over the past 16 years. It’s people like Lance, and all my Bereavement Coffee Morning volunteers, that help keep this service running. There have been many changes but Lance accepted and embraced them and I can’t thank him enough for all he’s done during his time with us. We’ll miss having him as part of our team.”

We really can’t thank Lance enough.
