A team of 100 runners raised over £38,000 for City Hospice during the 2025 Cardiff Half Marathon on 5 October 2025.

Introduced in 2003, the Cardiff Half Marathon has become an annual race that has grown to be one of the most exciting road races in the United Kingdom and one of Europe’s largest half marathons, attracting up to 27,500 registered runners alongside world-class athletes. The course is known for being flat and fast, passing iconic landmarks like Cardiff Castle, the Principality Stadium, and Cardiff Bay.

Among the 100 runners who ran in support of City Hospice was Welsh International endurance athlete Olivia Tsim who completed the race in aid of the charity in an impressive 1:15:01, gaining the silver Welsh medal.

Olivia took place in the race for a deeply personal reason as City Hospice provided care and support to her dad, Tony, before he sadly passed away in 2023. The Cardiff Half Marathon took place just nine days before what would have been Tony’s 66th birthday, making this an extremely important race for Olivia and her family.

A staff team from the hospice also took part in the half marathon including Fundraising and Events Manager Mac Smith, Marketing Executive Stephanie Bright, Fundraising Database Assistant Blanche Hughes, Senior Community Fundraiser Katie Vaughan, and Laura Watkins from the Finance department. The team raised a sum of £2,805 for City Hospice, each completing the 13.1 mile course.

Senior Community Fundraiser at City Hospice, Katie Vaughan said: “We’re incredibly grateful for the amazing support shown for this year’s Cardiff Half Marathon. With a record number of runners taking part and over £38,000 raised, the response has been phenomenal. I’m especially proud that our staff team contributed £2,805 towards this total, helping us continue to provide essential care for people and families across Cardiff.”

City Hospice has launched its charity spaces for the 2026 Cardiff Half Marathon which will give runners another opportunity to race for the charity and raise funds. City Hospice needs to raise over £3m each year to provide its services free of charge, meaning that events like the Cardiff Half Marathon contribute greatly towards the charity’s work.
