Here are City Hospice we are thrilled to have been selected as a Finalist for the Cardiff Life Awards 2020. Our evening memory event, The Sparkle Walk has been selected within the Events category.
This special charity event took place in September 2019 and saw 250 people walk 10 km in memory for loved loves. Participants walked to remember those we had cared for at City Hospice, along with family members not known to the charity.
The 10 km route started at Insole court, before heading through Llandaff, along the Taff Trial to Whitchurch and Ty Hosbis, before heading back to Insole Court. Walkers were surprised by the beautifully decorated Ty Hosbis, City Hospice’s centre in the grounds of Whitchurch Hospital. The ground floor of Ty Hosbis was spectacularly dressed with an indoor garden of lights and foliage. Walkers were invited to write a special message and display in the garden, whilst taken a moment of reflection.
We were also privileged to have so many wonderful, personal stories shared with us, as supporters.
“You don’t realise how important that help is until you’re in that situation. It is a pleasure to support City Hospice and I encourage everyone to donate to this wonderful charity.” Steve’s Story.
“The Sparkle Walk will spread some light amongst many families who are supported by City Hospice. We will be encouraging any of our patients who are unable to make the walk to make a donation to the charity. Fill in a tag for any loved ones they wish to remember and we will gladly add their tag when decorating the Memory Tree”. Birchgrove Surgery
“City Hospice is a vital component in the difficult journey we all undertake as a loved one develops serious medical conditions and so. Who knows how many others in the Cardiff community will need their services in the future. Particularly as the Hospice relies so much on volunteers and donations to help keep it going by serious fund raising each year”. Tony’s Story
