We are delighted to announce that portrait painter, David Griffiths MBE will be supporting our Art Auction.
This November, we will be holding our 11th annual Charity Art Auction and we are delighted to be supported by Welsh portrait painter, David Griffiths. As part of the auction, bidders will have the opportunity to have a portrait of their choice painted by David himself.
David Griffiths was born in Liverpool and bought up in north Wales. The BBC identifies him as ‘one of Wales’ most well-known portrait painters’. Among the well known portraits who have sat for him are King Charles III (then H.R.G Prince of Wales), former Prime Ministers and celebrities.
David trained at The Slade School of Fine Art, University College, London, under the direction of Sir William Coldstream, Sir Ernst Gombrich and Sir Anthony Blunt. After graduating from The Slade, he soon established himself as one of the nation’s foremost portrait painters.
His artistic inheritance came from his Grandfather, also a portrait painter, whose portrait of Prime Minister W.E. Gladstone hung in Liverpool’s Walker Art Gallery in 1889.
David told us:
“I have supported City Hospice for a number of years and I know how important their work is. Caring and enabling patients to be at home with their family and loved ones when suffering from a life-limiting illness is crucial to improving their quality of life”.
Corporate Partnerships Manager Nicky Piper said:
“Everyone at City Hospice is delighted that David has agreed to paint a portrait for an auction lot. He has painted some of the most important of the last few decades and I’m sure that people will bid generously for the chance to get a portrait of their choice painted”.
