Nook Candles support City Hospice by making a donation to support the charity with every sale of their Kind Candle. Kind to the environment and to Cardiff’s local hospice.
Holly and Bea from Nook Candles tell us all about their new business and why they have chosen to support City Hospice.
“We first had the idea of setting up a business in January 2020 just before the pandemic hit, this of course made things a little harder to set up. We used the time to experiment with different combinations of products. After a lot of research, we set out to make our candles with the goal of creating a cleaner, healthier and more environmentally conscious product. We, like many, were unaware of the potentially harmful chemicals contained in many candles, some of which contain paraffin wax which can release toxins into your home. 
We identified there’s a need for an earth friendly candle
Now we’re becoming more aware of our health and environmental footprint we discovered there was a need for an earth friendly candle. We produce a natural alternative, a candle that is made with only natural ingredients and will burn cleanly in your home.
We wanted to use a sustainable wax in our candles and rapeseed is just that, it has the advantage of thriving in the UK and Europe, which means low carbon emissions and happy bees! It is biodegradable, slow burning and clean. The slow burn is due to a lower melt point therefore our candles will last up to 40 hours (up to 3 times longer than paraffin wax), gently releasing the aromatherapy benefits of our oils.
We take pride in the scents we choose, developing lots of combinations until we find the right blend. We have enjoyed developing a brand which encompasses our ethos and being able to use the Welsh language.
Our Kind Candle is a perfect gift
We want to support a local charity in Cardiff and help raise money, in what is a difficult time for City Hospice. We also believe a candle is very fitting in that it’s the perfect gift, to either a loved one, frontline worker, a treat to yourself or in memory of a loved one. Lighting a candle can be a lovely way of symbolising a loved one, where the bereaved may light a candle to remember.
The retail cost of each candle is £32.00 and we’ll donate £2 per to City Hospice. Our candles are available to purchase online here. If you’re visiting local markets soon, look our for us at the Bone Yard on Saturday 29th May.
