Ladies Captain at Creigiau Golf Club chooses City Hospice as her Charity of the Year
Every year the Ladies Captain at Creigiau Golf Club chooses a charity to support. From Vice Captain to Ladies Captain, we are delighted to announce that Bethan Griffith has chosen City Hospice as her Charity of the Year.
Bethan joined Creigiau Golf Club 18 years ago as a total newbie and it didn’t take long for her to be hooked and now wonders what she did with her time before golf!
We ask Bethan about her time at Creigiau Golf Club:

Bethan & Vice captain, Sian
“For seven years, I held the role of Junior organiser within the club. After my children had enjoyed playing junior golf, I wanted to support and give something back to the section. I look forward now to a somewhat different role as Lady Captain. I was Vice-captain last year and had great training in the hands of our previous Lady Captain.”
Located in the village of Creigiau, the Golf Club is a very sociable club with many sections all supporting each other. The club just celebrated its centenary year, and whilst COVID-19 tried its hardest to disrupt the celebration, many social events and competitions successfully went ahead.
Bethan tells us why she has chosen City Hospice:
“Each year, the Ladies Captain chooses a charity that they wish to support. I chose City Hospice because a good friend of mine, unfortunately, witnessed first-hand, the great work of City Hospice as she sadly lost her husband to cancer. Not only did City Hospice offer wonderful care and nursing to him, but also tenderly took care of my friend and her boys, both during his illness and after his passing.
With COVID restrictions and many cancelled fundraising events, charities are needing our support now more than ever. Having seen and heard of the excellent work that the hospice offers, I didn’t hesitate in choosing City Hospice as my charity.
We asked Bethan what activities she has planned as Ladies Captain:
During May, I am running a grand raffle. Many local businesses have supported me in this, including Prichard’s, Kings Arms, Maison de Beaute, P&R Hopkins, JQ Catering Services, Tesco Express and Creigiau Travel. Their donations are gratefully accepted, as we are all aware that businesses have been through difficult times recently. Our club members have also been kindly supportive and ticket sales are going well!
There will also be a Ladies Captain Day in August, and both Club Captain and I hope to hold a Captain’s charity golf event sometime during the year. The proceeds of which will be shared amongst City Hospice and Air Ambulance Wales.

Bethan & Sian 2018 Cardiff Half Marathon
I am certainly looking forward to my year as Lady Captain and having fun whilst raising funds and of course, the occasional game of golf!”
Nicky Piper, Corporate Relationship Manager at City Hospice said:
“We’re delighted that Bethan has chosen City Hospice as her Charity of the Year. Helping fundraise to support the work and raise awareness is very much appreciated. The ladies at Creigiau Golf Club have played an active role in supporting City Hospice over the years, from supporting last years’ Forever Flowers, and our Sparkle Walk to Bethan & Sian running the Cardiff Half in aid of us. Everyone here at City Hospice wishes Bethan and the ladies section at Creigiau Golf Club a successful and enjoyable year”
