Cystain Choir sing on VE Day and support City Hospice

The CytSain Choir choir sing on VE Day and support City Hospice. They are adapting to social distancing rules and meeting very differently than their usual weekly practice sessions. They have recorded “We keep a welcome in the hillside” to celebrate VE Day .

Rhian, Musical Director told us

“Many have likened the recent pandemic restrictions to those during times of war. Of course those times were very different, especially without today’s technology. CytSain Choir were always planning some form of celebration for the anniversary of VE day. The current situation made it feel even more important”.

Usually CytSain, is made up of Welsh Government Staff and meet on a Wednesday lunchtime to rehearse and come together to help with colleagues’ health and well being. This has stopped during this time, many members are missing it.

Once they’d all settled into their new working routines they arranged a virtual lunchtime  rehearsal. This is helping really unburden the soul with laughter and friendly faces and with some attempted choral singing thrown in.

There was a great feeling that we still wanted to do something to mark VE Day.

“There was still a great feeling that we wanted to mark VE day so there was a discussion about what song in our repertoire was the most appropriate and how we could use it. This task tested all our technical and multi-tasking abilities to get all the recordings done and shared properly as well as editing the final video, with very grateful technical help from a friend of the Choir!

We chose City Hospice as our Charity of the Year

“Every year CytSain chooses a charity to support and this year it is City Hospice. This is a challenging time for charities and as we have no upcoming performances it will be difficult for us to support them in our normal way. So we decided to join our VE Day celebration video with a Just Giving page for the City Hospice to give what we can. It’s a pleasure for the CytSain choir to sing for City Hospice on VE Day

We hope you enjoy the video and if you would like to contact CytSain please email
