City Hospice, Cardiff’s local hospice, will receive Toy Appeal donations from St David’s Shopping Centre during the festive season.

As part of the annual St David’s Toy Appeal, we are one of 20 charities who’ll receive toys donated by the public.

The Toy Appeal supports over 20 incredible charities in Wales, and St David’s wants to make it the biggest year yet to ensure that every child in South Wales receives a Christmas gift.

From 1st – 23rd December, the centre is asking its customers to buy an extra gift for a child in need and drop it off at the in-centre Donation Stations where a team of festive helpers will be making sure that gifts are delivered safely in time to start the celebrations.

City Hospice is one of a number of Welsh charities benefitting from the campaign. Since the appeal launched in 2015, the appeal has seen the generosity of shoppers donate nearly 24,000 gifts.

Steven Madeley, General Manager for St David’s, commented: “Over the past three years, our shoppers have shown extraordinary generosity, allowing us to donate more toys every year to amazing charities that provide such vital services in the community, and we need your help to continue this. All we ask is you pick up something extra when buying your gifts and help us reach our target, so more children will have a memorable Christmas.”

The gifts will be given to children from our Child Bereavement Group who come to City Hospice for support. Our Head of Counselling and Bereavement, Sarah Bull, helps the children to cope with the loss of loved ones through arts and crafts, games and friendship.

Sarah said “We’re delighted with the donation of toys and want to thank St David’s shoppers for thinking of our children this Christmas. This time of year can be a really difficult time for the children we see so for them to receive surprise presents from kind strangers is absolutely incredible. Thank you to St David’s Centre and Capital FM for making this possible!”

Shoppers who want to take part can head to the Donation Station in the centre, located near the Clogau store.
