On Saturday 22 June, City Hospice joined thousands of people to celebrate diversity and inclusion at the Pride Cymru parade through the streets of central Cardiff.
This year marked 25 years since the first formal Pride event, Cardiff Mardi Gras, took place in 1999. Now organised by volunteer-led charity Pride Cymru, it has since grown to become Wales’ flagship event for the country’s LGBTQIA+ community and the country’s largest annual celebration of equality and diversity.

Those in attendance over the weekend were able to join in with a number of family friendly celebrations including the parade, workshops, activities, silent discos and entertaining performances from acts such as Heather Small and the Vengaboys.
Members of the City Hospice team and the charity’s volunteers teamed up with staff from St David’s Dewi Sant Cardiff for the parade. The route took in Castle Street, High Street, St Mary Street, Mill Lane, The Hayes, Queen Street and more.

In autumn 2023, St David’s Dewi Sant appointed City Hospice as its charity of the year. The popular shopping destination is committed to making a meaningful difference to the local community, supporting the charity through various fundraising and volunteering efforts throughout the year.
Mac Smith, Fundraising and Events Manager at City Hospice, said: “It was an honour to join the incredible Pride Cymru parade over the weekend thanks to our supporters at St David’s Dewi Sant. At City Hospice, we are dedicated to caring for Cardiff and embracing diversity and inclusion every step of the way.”
