As Cardiff’s local hospice, we would like to thank our amazing 300 volunteers for giving their time and generously supporting us.
Formerly George Thomas Hospice Care, we provide specialist palliative care to patients in their own homes as well as offering counselling (adults and children), welfare benefits advice and day centres with a range of activities.
Our volunteers provide valued help and, without them, we wouldn’t be able to help as many people as we do.
By sharing their time, skills, companionship and compassion, City Hospice volunteers offer something very special to those they meet and help us to provide the best care when it’s needed.
Last year, 338 people volunteered with City Hospice, whether it was in the shops, at the hospice, driving patients to and from home, helping at events or helping in the day centre.
We were also lucky enough to have over 30 corporate volunteers from Zurich Insurance, Sapiens, Hugh James, and the Healthcare Quality Division of the Welsh Government. They helped in the hospice gardens, at bucket collections, and taking part in our shop wars challenge.
Alex Fagan, our Volunteer Officer here at City Hospice, said he’s so grateful for the time volunteers give helping the hospice. “We’re thrilled to celebrate the work of our volunteers this week and say a massive thank you to each one for their invaluable contribution to hospice care. They’re a fantastic team and there’s always room for newcomers to join them!”.
To celebrate Volunteers’ Week 2018, we’ll be sharing some of our volunteers’ stories and hope they’ll inspire some of you to come and join us!
