On Sunday 7th October 2018, a team of 50 amazing runners will take on the 13.1 miles in aid of City Hospice patients and their families. Our Community Fundraiser, Rachael Southcott, will be helping them through their journeys all the way to the finishing line.
She’s put together 10 top tips for our fabulous fundraisers to help them raise lots of money!
Start early
It’s never too early to start fundraising. As soon as you’ve signed up, go for it. The earlier the better!
Online giving
Online giving pages (such as our very own City Hospice fundraising pages and JustGiving) are easy to set up and are a great way to get those donations rolling in. Sign up, set up your page and tell the world about what you’re doing. Personalising the page will help you reach more people and in turn, get more donations. Share to your social media accounts to instantly connect with your entire friends list and beyond!
Tell your story
Why are you running the Cardiff Half Marathon? Why are you fundraising for City Hospice? Share your personal story to engage with people who will want to support you. The personal touch can make all the difference and remind you why you’re taking on such an amazing challenge!
Social media
Use Twitter, Facebook and Instagram to share pictures, training updates, your online giving link and videos. The world is your oyster! Be enthusiastic and get your friends and family behind you. Make it an adventure!
Get your friends and family involved
Rope in your friends and family and make the Cardiff Half a family affair! Run as a team and you could double, triple or quadruple your total! It’s also great for morale and motivation.
Work, work, work, work!
Never underestimate the generosity of your work mates. Take a good old fashioned paper sponsorship form into work and tell your colleagues about what you’re doing and why. Why not find out whether your employer has a Matched Funding scheme? They might just be able to top up what you raise, which is always great news!
Set a target
Set yourself a fundraising target. By having something in writing, you’ll always have that target in mind when you’re out fundraising. Did you know that online giving pages with set targets perform better, on average, than those without? Don’t be afraid to aim high. We’ll be there every step of the way to support you and give advice.
Hold an epic event
Good at baking or know people that are? Hold a bake sale! Got lots of old clutter? Have a boot sale! All these extra pennies will bulk up your total and the events themselves will help create a buzz in the build up to the Cardiff Half! (You might even get more cheerleaders on the sidelines when event day arrives!)
Up the ante…
Promise your supporters that, if you hit a certain target, you’ll do something a little bit extra. Shave your head, dye your hair, run in costume…the possibilities are endless and add an extra element of fun!
Keep going!
Did you know that 20% of donations come in after an event has ended?! Even after you’ve completed the Cardiff Half, keep fundraising! Update your online giving page with photos of you looking victorious (with your big shiny medal) and keep sharing updates, videos and photos via social media.
On behalf of City Hospice, THANK YOU for taking on this challenge. Your miles matter and we can’t thank you enough for taking part.
