Brave Grandmother, Muriel Best, and her Grandson, Matt Chamberlain, are taking on a skydive in aid of City Hospice and Parkinson’s UK.

To celebrate Muriel’s 80th birthday and Matt’s 30th, the pair are skydiving at 10,000ft on Saturday 6th April to raise £500 for their chosen charities.

Muriel, from Cardiff, was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease 10 years ago but it hasn’t stopped her from doing everything she wants to do.

Matt, from Newport, is jumping in aid of City Hospice, Cardiff’s local hospice, after they looked after his Dad until he sadly passed away in 2017. He says “My dad was cared for at home by the City Hospice nurses during his battle with cancer two years ago. The care he received from Kate and the team was incredible. He also received counselling during his illness which really helped him to mentally get through it.

I also had bereavement counselling at City Hospice after my Dad passed away and I can’t explain how much it helped. I think it is so important to help people through those dark days after you’ve lost someone close and I honestly don’t think I would have gotten through it without the counselling team at City Hospice.”

City Hospice is a registered charity at the heart of Cardiff, providing specialist medical, nursing and end of life care to patients in their own homes. Formerly George Thomas Hospice Care, we offer counselling (to adults and children), welfare benefits advice and day centres with a range of activities. City Hospice is the only at-home palliative care provider for the city of Cardiff and needs to raise a total of £1.5m to keep providing these specialist services.

Rachael Southcott, Community Fundraiser at City Hospice, would like to thank Matt and Muriel for taking on this challenge. “Jumping out of a plane is such a brave thing and we can’t thank these lovely people enough for doing it in aid of us. We’re always so proud to hear how our team out in the community is making a difference and supporting patients and their families through tough times. They’ve raised 70% of their target so far so, if you can, dig deep and help them to raise the full amount!”
