Picture the scene….three men are standing in a very big poker room.

It’s 6:45pm Saturday 31st March, with 15 minutes to go, Derek Gamlin, Paul Greedy and Clint Oldridge were apprehensive. No-one else had come through the doors and it looked like it was the three amigoes sharing the raffle prizes! However, fortune smiled upon Les Croupiers’ efforts to raise awareness of Arthur Howell’s Memorial Poker Tournament, as through the doors 60 players walked in! Friends and family from far afield as Minehead and Norwich turned up in droves.

Despite a hectic schedule, Clint managed to sell nearly 800 raffle tickets, ably assisted with an interesting suit to raise a wry smile. Calls of all-in and chips were soon to be heard as players got into the spirit of the event and ably put aside their normal quiet play throwing caution to the wind. Over 138 re-enrties (for a limited period, players can buy more chips if they have lost their first lot) into the tournament meant that with the suppport of Les Croups’ Mr McIlroy supporting the event with £300 of his own money, they managed to raise £2,420 in the evening!

In the end the eventual winner Mike Hussein split the prize money with Clint Oldridge and Scott Howell; Arthur’s very proud and appreciative son. Thanks to the staff for their excellent support both downstairs; Tracy, and upstairs; David Morgan (card-room manager) and his team of excellent dealers for a truly fun and worthy night for all.
