Here at City Hospice, we run weekly day centre groups where patients and carers can socialise and get involved in some amazing activities including:
- Musical entertainment
- Theatrical performances
- Arts and crafts
- Visits from our four-legged Therapy Dog friends
- Life stories
They can also take part in creative therapy activities (which many of our patients have reported helps them to express and explore emotional or physical issues in a safe way). Some people find it easier to express difficult emotions and painful times through being creative rather than talking things through. It can help with depression, low esteem, express buried emotion, take patients minds off pain or discomfort and give them a sense of achievement. Many of our patients report that they enjoy coming to day centre as they spend time with new people and their families have a break from providing their care too.
Taking part in these sessions also gives our Clinical Nurse Specialists the opportunity to meet with patients, have a catch up and carry out necessary reviews.
