This September, siblings Rhiannon & Nathon are taking part in the Cardiff 10k in memory of Nan and Bampi
We spoke with Rhiannon and Nathan, who are participating in the Cardiff 10K to support City Hospice. Rhiannon, a lover of giraffes and sunshine, is joining her brother Nathan, a father of two and a dedicated Cardiff rugby fan.
We asked Rhiannon why they have chosen to support City Hospice:
City Hospice cared for my Bampi and my Nan in their final moments and did so while honouring their wishes and were always at the other end of the phone whenever needed, nothing was too big or too small. The hospice helped us keep our grandparents home during a time when there was still restrictions for COVID, and meant we could keep them comfortable with family around. The nurses were very helpful and always answered our calls/questions very quickly. Over the last few years I have run about 5 10Ks and 4 half marathons and I thought I had hung up my running shoes for good until I decided one evening to do something in memory of my Nan and Bampi, that would also make a difference.
As a runner herself, Rhiannon asked her brother Nathan to join her in running the Cardiff 10K. Nathan describes his running ability as “only running after a toddler which is a cardio workout like no other! Rhiannon asked me to run the 10k] and to raise money and support for a worthwhile cause.”
Rhiannon also added:
It’s important that this care is around for others who need to benefit from it. I don’t know what we would have done without the support so would like to make sure there is an opportunity for others to have the same. City Hospice is a local charity who help anyone who have been affected by the loss of someone through their counselling services. I think City Hospice is a lot more personal to the families and were always around to answer any questions than larger charities, not only that they helped the whole family.
Our Fundraising Coordinator, Katie Vaughan, said:
“We are so grateful to Rhiannon and Nathan for taking on this challenge in aid of City Hospice. They have already raised a fantastic amount of money for the hospice! We can’t wait to see Rhiannon and Nathan smash this challenge and see them cross the finish line in September! Good luck with your training, only 4 weeks to go”.
