“Love your charity” – A Supporter’s Legacy for City Hospice
City Hospice, Cardiff’s local hospice, is proud to be part of the national This Is Hospice Care campaign, shining a light on the vital role hospices play in communities and the critical importance of gifts in Wills.
Leaving a legacy is a powerful way to ensure that specialist palliative care remains available for generations to come. One of our dedicated supporters, Tony, has experienced firsthand the impact of City Hospice and shares why he has chosen to leave a gift in his Will.
“Caring – that is the philosophy of City Hospice, and I am fortunate to have experienced this firsthand – both during my wife’s long illness and in my bereavement since she passed away in 2018.
My wife, Carol, received exemplary care over many years as she faced several major challenges, including Parkinson’s disease and cancer. The care provided by City Hospice was first-class, and she looked forward to her weekly visits, which offered much-needed respite from being housebound. Everyone at the hospice was so kind and compassionate—from the volunteer drivers who picked her up to the dedicated nurses who supported her during her treatment.”
City Hospice is the only provider of home-based specialist palliative care in Cardiff, supporting more than 1,800 patients each year. The charity provides expert clinical care, emotional support, and bereavement counselling for families facing the challenges of terminal illness.
Following Carol’s passing, City Hospice continued to support Tony through bereavement counselling, helping him navigate life after loss. Inspired by the kindness and care he received, Tony decided to give back.
“After Carol passed away, City Hospice was there for me too, providing bereavement counselling when I needed it most. Before long, I joined their incredible team of volunteers, and today, I am a proud volunteer. It has been a truly life-changing experience to support a first-class charity that does such outstanding work for Cardiff.”
