Lani’s Journey: Honouring Her Dad and Supporting City Hospice
Since she was a young girl, Lani has loved being part of her local community, taking part in events, and raising money for charity. Giving back has always been close to her heart, but in 2023, this passion took on a deeper meaning when she and her family faced the heartbreaking loss of her dad, Lee.
Throughout his illness, City Hospice provided exceptional care, offering not only medical support but also comfort to the entire family. The care they received made a lasting impact, and ever since, Lani and her family have been dedicated to giving back, determined to support the hospice in the same way it supported them.
As a way of keeping her dad’s memory alive, Lani has recently poured her thoughts and emotions into a beautiful poetry book. Writing has been a deeply personal and healing journey for her, and she hopes that others who have experienced loss will find comfort and connection in her words.
Lani has been an active fundraiser for City Hospice, she said,
“I took part in the Sparkle Walk in 2024, which I found so fun and rewarding. My mum and I gathered a group of 15 people to come with us and we plan on doing the same this year. We loved glittering up and walking with everyone”.
Through her poetry and fundraising efforts, Lani continues to make a meaningful impact. She added,
“I want to donate some of the proceeds of the earnings of my poetry book to City Hospice as they have become a big part of my life and not only helped me but also my Mum, Dad, and friends. This book is my first big fundraising activity however I do plan on making more and volunteering as much as I can for City Hospice”.
Katie Robinson, Community Fundraiser said,
“We’re incredibly proud to support Lani as she shares her poetry in memory of her dad. It’s truly inspiring to see her turn her personal journey into something that brings comfort to others, and we’re honoured to be part of her story. The funds and awareness raised through her book will help us continue providing vital care and support to families across our community.”
