This October, City Hospice Trustee Richard Thomas and his wife Sam will be joining #TeamHospice as they take on the Cardiff Half Marathon.

Richard has been volunteering at City Hospice for over two years and is now a trustee of the charity. We’re delighted to see Richard and Sam join #TeamHospice at the Cardiff Half Marathon and for their support in helping us raise vital funds and awareness.

We spoke to Richard,

“I am supporting City Hospice because it’s an amazing charity that does fantastic work in providing palliative care in the community for people with life-limiting conditions. I’m proud to be a Trustee of the charity as I’m passionate about the role that charities play in delivering services within the communities they serve.

For me, running the Cardiff Half Marathon will certainly be a challenge but it will be an amazing, yet slightly painful, experience to run in aid of City Hospice. I started training a few months ago, at first I couldn’t run for more than a few minutes without having to stop. As I’ve gradually built up my stamina I can now run for 10 miles which is something I never thought I would be able to do!

It does also help having the support from my fabulous wife, Sam who is also running the Cardiff Half Marathon in support of City Hospice. It will be great to run with her on the day, she’s an awesome runner and a great motivator and I’m excited to see us both run in the colours of City Hospice – I just need to improve on my speed as I’m definitely ‘her slower half!’.

City Hospice Corporations Manager Nicky Piper said,

“Thank you so much to Richard and Sam for joining #TeamHospice for the Cardiff Half Marathon. We wish you all the best in your training and we look forward to cheering you on in October”.
