At City Hospice we’re celebrating Trustees Week, the time of year when we celebrate the amazing contribution made by trustees for their charities and recognise the difference they make.

Our Board of Trustees is made up of 12 dedicated individuals, each of whom brings their individual talents and experience to the collective decision making, helping us grow stronger.

Michael Baker, Chair of the Board of Trustees

We would like to introduce Michael Baker, who became a Trustee with City Hospice in 2019 and became the Chair of the Board of Trustees in March 2020. As we celebrate Trustees Week, Michael kindly shares why he supports City Hospice.

“It means a lot to me to be a part of City Hospice, it’s a great local charity in Cardiff that does much more than is required of it by the health board and that makes me proud. We go beyond what is needed to really help the people who need support. It means that I also want to go beyond what is required of me as a Trustee and not only ensure that we are providing the best possible support today but that we have an organisation fit for purpose for the next 10 years.

Having personal experiences with palliative care I was in awe at the level of care. My mother had palliative care and the compassion the doctors and nurses showed to her and my family was a great comfort. I knew during that awful time that end of life care was something special and I was keen to do something to help my local hospice in Cardiff.

This year City Hospice looked after the mother of a good friend of mine and I was so proud to hear how supportive the whole team was to him as they cared for his mother in her last few months. Being a Trustee brings a lot of responsibility but also a lot of satisfaction, especially when I hear from our patients what an amazing job the team is doing to help.

I would like to thank the team for the fantastic work they do, each individual brings a unique skill, perspective and passion for our mission to ensure those in our care can live the rest of their lives to the fullest”.

A special thank you to Michael for sharing your story as a part of Trustees Week. From all of us here at City Hospice, we would like to say a massive thank you to all of our Trustees and for your time, commitment and effort you bring to enable us to #CareForCardiff.
