This #LoveYourHospiceMonth, we’re shining a light on the incredible KnitWhits, a dedicated community group that has supported City Hospice for over 10 years—raising an amazing £4,114.68 last year alone.

These talented crafters make a difference one stitch at a time, creating beautiful handmade items and selling them at market stalls to support our vital care services. But for its members, KnitWhits is about more than just fundraising—it’s about friendship, creativity, and giving back.

We spoke to some of the group’s members to find out what being part of KnitWhits means to them.

Jean, City Hospice Volunteer & KnitWhits Member, shared:

“I joined about 10 years ago to learn how to crochet flowers for my eldest daughter’s vintage-themed wedding. The ladies in the group were incredibly helpful, and the results were good enough to be used! KnitWhits is a lovely bunch of ladies from all walks of life—people who might never have met otherwise. We help each other develop our skills, and the generosity within the group is extraordinary.

It’s always rewarding to see how much we’ve raised, and we’re really pleased with our 2024 total”.

Helen, one of our Shop Volunteers & KnitWhits members, joined the group to fit around office hours and said:

“I soon realised it was a worthy cause. It’s a really friendly group, and I’ve been a member for about nine years now”.

Julie, City Hospice Volunteer & KnitWhits member, added:

“One of the best things is helping out at KnitWhits events. We raise awareness about City Hospice, meet people who have been helped by the charity, and feel enormous satisfaction when someone says, ‘I love that!’ and buys something we’ve made”.

Join the KnitWhits!

This Love Your Hospice Month, we want to say a huge thank you to every KnitWhits member for your dedication, creativity, and kindness. Your hard work allows us to continue providing compassionate care to those who need it most.

The KnitWhits are always welcoming new members! They meet every Wednesday at 5pm at Dunelm, Newport Road. If you’d like to get involved, get in touch with our fundraising team at fundraising@cityhospice.org.uk.
