Janet joined us in 2016 as a volunteer receptionist and now supports our Day Centre. Here, Janet talks about her apprehensions about volunteering.

I volunteer with City Hospice as a locum receptionist and as a Day Care Host in the patient groups, chatting and helping run activities with the patients. I took early retirement from Tesco after 20 years, for the last five I have been using an electric wheelchair resulting in difficulties from contracting Polio as a child. I was apprehensive about volunteering because of my wheelchair but now wished I’d done it years ago, City Hospice have been so welcoming and the focus is on what I can do and the skills I bring instead of what I can't. I would encourage others with disabilities to consider volunteering here, it’s an incredibly rewarding experience.
