“As a volunteer, it gives me a great sense of purpose to support the Hospice, plus a feeling of adding value and being needed.” – Liz Jervis, City Hospice Volunteer
“Volunteer support has a massive impact on our charity and we’re so grateful to all those who give up their time for us.
We truly couldn’t do what we do, without each and every one of our wonderful volunteers”

Current Volunteering Opportunities
Retail Volunteers
We’re looking for enthusiastic and reliable retail volunteers to help support our charity shops. Our shops raise vital funds to enable us to support those in the local community living with a life limiting illness and their families.
We currently have a range of opportunities available at our stores located in Barry, Ely, Llanishen, Rhiwbina, Penarth and Whitchurch.
Retail volunteers take part in a range of tasks such as sorting donations, pricing and providing excellent customer service. By volunteering in our shops, you’ll be making a huge difference and become part of a friendly, welcoming team. You’ll also be giving something back to your community.
Paul, a Retail Volunteer Team Leader says:
“The best thing about volunteering here is becoming part of the Hospice’s family, and being able to contribute to an amazing local charity”
You don’t need any retail experience for this role, full training will be provided. Ideally, you’ll be able to commit to regularly volunteer for at least 4 hours per week.
With plenty of opportunities currently available, please get in touch with us today to find a store and shift that works for you. Our retail teams can’t wait to welcome you on-board!
To apply to become a Volunteer Charity Shop Assistant, or for further information, please email volunteer@cityhospice.org.uk

Volunteer Collection Tin Coordinators
We are looking for friendly and reliable people who can manage City Hospice collection tins, in Central Cardiff and Cardiff Bay.
Our collection tins are a simple way to raise money and awareness for the hospice so that we can continue to care for people in Cardiff with cancer, dementia, motor neurone disease and other life-limiting illnesses.
Collection tins contribute to the £2 million that we need to fundraise every year to continue to deliver our services in Cardiff, so it’s important that we have tins well-distributed across the city in pubs, shops, restaurants, and local businesses.
This role is fully flexible around your current work and family commitments, and by volunteering to manage even a small number of tins, you will be making a big difference to the work that we do. The time you will need to commit will depend on the number of tins you are able to manage within your community.
To apply to become a Collection Tin Coordinator, please email volunteer@cityhospice.org.uk
Volunteer Gardeners 🌳
We have a rare opportunity for some new ‘green-fingered’ volunteers to help support our gardening team!
If you have a passion for plants or an interest in gardening, we’d love to hear from you!
Volunteering within our gardening team can:
🍃 Help to promote mental health and well-being
🍃 Enable you to make new friends and get to know like-minded people
🍃 Be extremely rewarding – many patients and family members take the time to enjoy our outdoor space, including our staff!
If you’d like to get involved or find out more, please email volunteer@cityhospice.org.uk
Community Volunteers and Bucket Collectors
Could you help spread the word about City Hospice at an awareness stand? Perhaps you’re happy to donate your time for an hour or two to support Cardiff’s local hospice with a community bucket collection? Maybe you’re keen to help us distribute our flyers to businesses across Cardiff – whatever you can do in the community, we’d love to hear from you!
To discuss our Community Volunteering opportunities further, please email volunteer@cityhospice.org.uk
Events volunteers
Could you help support us at one of our exciting events? With a calendar full of activities throughout the year, it’s a role that gives you full flexibility to pick and choose what you can get involved with. We have raft races, sponsored dog walks, golf days and in memory events to name just a few.
We’re always on the lookout for volunteers to support at these events and volunteer roles normally include:
🎉 Registering event participants when they arrive
🎉 Selling hospice merchandise
🎉 Marshalling routes
🎉 Selling raffle tickets
If you’re interested to help, please email volunteer@cityhospice.org.uk
You can do this as a one off role if you see an event that you’re interested in, and even bring along a friend or family member to help too!
To apply for any of our volunteering opportunities, please email volunteering@cityhospice.org.uk or complete our online application form here
Corporate Volunteering
Our Corporate Volunteering Programme for 2023 is currently full. We absolutely love working with corporate teams and our Corporate Volunteering opportunities are always in high demand!
As a charity, we work closely with a range of businesses across Cardiff and we’re especially keen to build mutually beneficial, relationships with those we work with.
The priority of our corporate volunteering days are given to our Charity Of The Year or Platinum Pledge Partners. We also prioritise working with businesses that are able support us in other ways that can benefit the charity – such as sponsoring our upcoming events and activities.
If you’re interested to get involved by volunteering with us in 2024, please get in touch with our Volunteer Development Manager Sam at Samantha.curtis@cityhospice.org.uk
“Volunteering is twice blessed. It blesses those that give it and those that receive it.” – Maurice Prendergast, City Hospice Volunteer
