Due to the current situation with COVID-19 we want to help keep our volunteers safe and well so they are currently at home.  They are a vital part of our team and we can’t wait to welcome them back.

If you’d like to find out more about volunteering in the future we’d love to hear from you. You can email our Volunteer Officer Sam here

City Hospice volunteers play a vital role in the work of the charity, and we have a range of opportunities available.

Event volunteers

Could you spare an hour or two to support Cardiff’s local hospice at our events.

We’re always looking volunteer to support are events and  volunteer roles include:

  • Registering event participants when they arrive
  • Selling hospice merchandise
  • Marshalling routes
  • Selling raffle tickets

If you’re interested in one of the above, please get in touch with our Fundraising Officer, Daisy Magill, on 02920 524150 or email daisy.magill@cityhospice.org.uk.

Collections Volunteer

Could you spare an hour or two to support Cardiff’s local hospice with a bucket collection?

We’ve got a number of collections planned over the year in some exciting venues and are looking for volunteers to help support these, often on evenings and weekends.

Collection Box Coordinator

Collection Box Coordinators drop off and collect our charity collection boxes across Cardiff. Volunteers can also help source new venues to hold boxes. This role is fully flexible, working whatever hours and time commitment you can give.

If you are a sociable person with good networking skills and an outgoing personality then this is the volunteer role for you. You must be aged 18 or over and have your own transport. Local knowledge of the Cardiff area would be an advantage.

Patient Driver

Patient Drivers support with City Hospice’s day centres by transporting patients to and from their homes to our hospice centre in Whitchurch. Our patients are based across the city and often need support with transport to attend on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. By using your own car to transport our patients, you’ll be enabling them to socialise with other people, receive complementary therapies, and have some much-needed entertainment.

Our patient groups run Tuesday and Thursday between 1:30pm and 3:30pm, with patients coming from across the city.

Some of our volunteers have shared with us why they enjoy being a patient volunteer driver:

Kevin tells us ” I find volunteering for City Hospice such a rewarding experience. I really look forward to seeing our patients and listening to their stories. I volunteer because City Hospice provided such great care to my wife and I want to give something back so the charity can continue to support those who need it in the local community.”

Derek says ” The Hospice has a need and I have a car and it’s lovely to volunteer for such a great Charity”.

Nick tells us ” I volunteer at City Hospice to give something back to the Community”.

Patient Minibus Driver

Patient Minibus Drivers support with City Hospice’s day centres by transporting patients to and from their homes to our hospice centre in Whitchurch. Our patients are based across the city and often need support with transport to attend on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. Some of our patients have limited mobility so need to arrive via our minibus in a wheelchair instead of a car. By using our minibus to transport our patients, you’ll be enabling them to socialise with other people, receive complementary therapies, and have some much-needed entertainment.

Our patient groups run Tuesday and Thursday between 1:30pm and 3:30pm, with patients coming from across the city. Due to insurances purposes, drivers of the minibus need to be aged 25 or over and under the age of 70. Ideally, you’ll have previous experience of driving a minibus (3.5T).

Entertainers, Talkers, and Workshop Leaders

Do you have a special talent or could you give an interesting and engaging talk or workshop? We’re looking for people who want to make a difference to our day groups by providing entertainment. In the past, we’ve had musical performances, talks from beekeepers, gardening workshops and art classes.

Charity Shop Assistant

Could you support one of our seven charity shops in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan?

Our shop volunteers work tirelessly six days a week to raise money for our clinical service but are always in need of support.

Volunteers take part in a range of tasks such as sorting donations, steaming clothes, pricing and providing excellent customer service in the community. By volunteering in our shops, you’ll become part of a friendly team. You’ll also be giving something back to your community.

We’re currently looking for volunteers in the following locations:

  • Splott  – Tuesday & Wednesday  morning and afternoons, Thursday & Friday afternoons
  • Cathays – Monday to Saturday morning and afternoon shifts available
  • Penarth – Monday & Tuesday mornings, Wednesday & Friday all day and Thursday afternoons

  • Llanishen – no vacancies at present
  • Barry – Tuesday & Saturday afternoons, Wednesday & Thursday all day and Friday mornings
  • Ely – Monday all day, Tuesday , Thursday & Friday afternoons, Saturday all day
  • Where vacancies are all day this can be a full day or a split between morning and afternoon shifts
