Being diagnosed with a terminal illness can be frightening for both the patient and their loved ones. That’s where the dedicated and caring team at City Hospice come in.
City Hospice is Cardiff’s local hospice, providing nursing, medical and end of life care for over 1,000 patients a year across the city. Our team provide high quality care, reassurance and a listening ear to patients, families and carers in the most difficult of times, with our focus to make sure patients continue making precious memories with their loved ones in the time they have left.
Every year the demand for our services increases. Every year we work with more patients with life-limiting conditions, including Dementia, Cancer and Motor Neurone Disease (MND), and it is becoming more and more difficult to find the funds to meet our needs as demand grows.
As the only at-home palliative care provider for the city of Cardiff, and with less than 35% of our funding coming from the NHS, we need to raise a total of £1.5m/£2m to keep providing our important, specialist services.
That’s where you come in.
How can you help?
Did you know that leaving a gift in your will can make a real difference to those who find themselves in need of City Hospice care? Your gift could help us achieve so much.
It means:
- We can help more patients and their families across Cardiff
- You can help patients and families create precious memories to last a lifetime
- You can bring comfort to so many when you’re no longer here
Your legacy will live on through the gift you make to Cardiff’s local hospice.
Each year, gifts in wills pay for the care of around 100 City Hospice patients. Making sure your loved ones are provided for after you’re gone is really important to so many people. If, after making sure your family are looked after, you were to leave just 1% of your estate to City Hospice, it would make a very real difference and would create a lasting tribute to you.
How do I leave a gift in my will?
There are a few things to consider when creating your will:
- Find a local solicitor to help with putting your will together. Go with someone you feel comfortable with. We offer a free will writing service to our patients (ask more for details)
- Find out how much your estate is worth (including your property, savings, pensions etc)
- Think about who you will be including (family members, friends etc) and who will be the overall ‘executor’ of your estate/will when you’re gone
- Think about what you would like to leave to your chosen charity
For you to leave a gift to City Hospice, you/your solicitor will need to add a short paragraph into your will expressing your wish to do so. You can do this yourself but we do recommend using a solicitor to help you.
Here is some suggested wording:
To leave a share of your estate

I declare that the receipt of the Business Support Manager or other proper officer at City Hospice for the time being shall be a sufficient discharge to my executors(s).”
To leave a cash gift
