Join us for our first ever Volunteer Open Day and find out more about the work of City Hospice and the ways that you can get involved.

Whether you’ve got a few hours to spare here and there or are looking for a regular opportunity, we’ve got something for you!

Why Volunteer

City Hospice is a registered charity at the heart of Cardiff, providing medical, nursing and end of life care to patients in their own homes. Formerly George Thomas Hospice Care, we offer counselling (to adults and children), welfare benefits advice and day centres with a range of activities. City Hospice is the only at-home palliative care provider for the city of Cardiff and needs to raise a total of £2m to keep providing these specialist services.

We’re supported by over 300 volunteers that help with our patient care, fundraising, and in the day-to-day running of our hospice centre. Without the support of these hospice heroes, we wouldn’t be able to offer the services that we do.

Volunteering is a great way to use your skills, develop new ones and make new friends – all whilst supporting your local community. Some of our volunteers recently shared their stories and told us what they enjoy about volunteering:

About The Day

On the day you’ll get a chance to hear about the work of City Hospice and how you can get involved. You’ll be given a tour of our hospice centre, including our day rooms and treatment rooms, and shown our award-winning gardens.

Staff from across the charity will be there to talk to you about the different ways you can get involved – and even give a few of the roles a go! We’ll also be joined by some of our existing volunteers who will be on hand to answer any of your questions.

They’ll be plenty of tea, coffee, and welsh cakes on hand to enjoy while you’re having a natter about volunteering with us.

What Support Are You Looking For?

There are loads of fantastic ways you can use your time volunteering, from bucket collections to shop volunteering, and patient driving to gardening. A full list of current opportunities can be found by clicking here.

We’ll also be joined by The Knitwhits, our community fundraising group, who are looking for new members and will be giving demonstrations and showcasing some of their amazing knits!
