The Cardiff Raft race, sponsored by Western Power Distribution is now in its ninth year and is surely the most enjoyable event in the capital's sporting calendar.

Teams have to build their own raft and race upstream from Llandaff Rowing Club for almost a mile before turning and racing for home. Most teams have a theme and dress up themselves, their vessel or both.

With lots going on at the clubhouse, such as a BBQ, ice cream van, bouncy castles, face painting and lots more, this really is an event for the whole family.

The day is patrolled by Cardiff and Vale Rescue Association.

Teams have to be on site at 10.30am for a race start of 12 noon.

It's £50 to enter a team of between four and ten rowers. Once registered, they will receive a full information pack with guidelines for raft building and safety precautions. They will also be given advice on sponsorship and fundraising and a sponsorship form for all crew members. It is requested that teams endeavour to raise a minimum team total of at least £300. There will be a trophy and certificates for the most successful fundraisers!
