blue self storage has appointed City Hospice as its Charity of the Year for 2026, supporting the vital palliative care and counselling services the charity provides to the Cardiff community.

With firm roots in Cardiff and South Wales, blue self storage first opened its doors in 1988 at Wentloog Corporate Park. Since then, demand for secure and affordable self storage has continued to grow, and the business has expanded to six sites across the UK including Wentloog, Llanishen, Treforest, Bridgend, Bristol and Newcastle.

The company has a strong history of supporting charities throughout the year, often providing free storage to help manage donations and keep charity shops well stocked. In 2025, blue self storage formalised this commitment by launching a Charity of the Year scheme, giving staff the opportunity to nominate and vote for a cause close to their hearts. The team voted in favour of City Hospice for 2026.

Director of Operations, Dean Daly, shared why the partnership is so important to the team:

“Sadly, I lost my father to cancer in November 2025 and the staff from City Hospice were incredible. They made an extremely difficult time that little bit easier, and for that I will be eternally thankful. We’re a close team at blue self storage, and I’m not the only one to have lost someone through cancer. It’s a brutal, indiscriminate disease which impacts every family. We hope our work throughout 2026 helps other families.”

During the year, blue self storage plans not only to take part in a number of City Hospice fundraising events, but also to explore unique challenges of their own to raise vital funds and awareness for the organisation.

Tracey Simpson, Corporate Relationships Manager at City Hospice, said:

“We’re delighted to have been chosen as blue self storage’s Charity of the Year. Their enthusiasm, creativity and commitment to supporting local causes really stood out, and we’re looking forward to seeing the fun and imaginative ways they plan to support City Hospice throughout the year.”
