Members of the Beacons Business Network completed the iconic Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, raising vital funds for Cardiff’s local hospice in October.
The adventure saw Alun Leach, Leon Gorman, Steve Griffiths, and Libby Jervis take on this extraordinary challenge, joining a wider group of 21 trekkers with Global Adventure Challenges.
The Beacons Business Network is a business networking group that meets monthly to walk beautiful routes through the national park, combining wellbeing, community, and connection.
Founder of the Beacons Business Network, Alun Leach, said:
“Travelling to Peru in aid of City Hospice was nothing short of extraordinary, an adventure that blended emotion, resilience, culture, and purpose into one unforgettable experience.”
Along with the City Hospice fundraisers were 21 other hikers, each with their own story, motivation, and personal journey.
Alun added:
“Many of us were strangers at the start, but we became a genuine team, walking, stepping, struggling, and laughing our way through every stage of the trek. It was a powerful reminder of what people can achieve together.”
The group spent four days trekking through the Andes, taking on steep ascents, high altitudes, and breathtaking mountain passes. Supported by the experienced local Wayki crew and Global Adventure Challenges, the team were immersed in the rich history and spectacular landscapes of the Inca Trail before reaching the Sun Gate and witnessing Machu Picchu at sunrise, a moment many described as unforgettable.
Alun shared:
“City Hospice is a charity that makes such an incredible difference to local families. Taking on this challenge felt like a meaningful way to give back. If anyone is considering taking on a challenge for charity, I can say wholeheartedly: do it. With City Hospice and Global Adventure Challenges behind you, you’ll be in the best possible hands.”
Corporate Relationships Manager, Nicky Piper, said:
“We’re so proud of everyone for taking on this incredible challenge. It’s been amazing to watch the team fundraise and train over the past year, and we couldn’t be more grateful for all the support they’ve given to City Hospice. Their commitment and fundraising will help us continue to provide the vital care families need in Cardiff.”
