City Hospice’s Sparkle Walk will return to north Cardiff this September, bringing together families, friends, and colleagues to remember loved ones while raising vital funds for the charity.

The 10km night-time walk, which begins at Insole Court, Llandaff, will see participants stroll to City Hospice in Whitchurch and back, with a medal and glass of sparkle waiting for them on their return. At the halfway point, walkers will pause at the hospice’s memory garden, where they will have the chance to leave a heartfelt message or hang a ribbon in memory of a loved one.

With over 150 participants already signed up, and hundreds more expected to do so, the event promises to offer a memorable and uplifting evening for supporters to come together to celebrate loved ones and support vital care. Walkers will also be able to personalise their specially produced Sparkle Walk t-shirts, letting memories of loved ones shine throughout the evening.

Natalie Bruno, who is participating in this year’s Sparkle Walk in memory of her father John, said: “For the past three years we’ve taken part in the Sparkle Walk, an unforgettable event supporting this amazing charity. It’s a chance to honour the memory of loved ones, reflect and give back to City Hospice for the incredible care and compassion they’ve shown us over the years.

“The charity’s continued support to our family means the world, and this walk is our way of saying thank you. We love completing this together as a family as it’s a magical event filled with love, beautiful memories and lots of sparkle and joy!”

The Sparkle Walk, which takes place on 19 September and is proudly supported by Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water, will raise funds to support the work of City Hospice, the only provider of home-based specialist palliative care in the capital. In addition to specialist care, the charity provides counselling, welfare advice and complementary therapies to patients with terminal or life-limiting illnesses, as well as much needed bereavement and counselling support for their families.

Mac Smith, Fundraising and Events Manager at City Hospice, said: “City Hospice provides care and compassion for 550 people at any one time and every event helps us to continue providing specialist care and support for patients and their loved ones.

“Fundraising at events like Sparkle Walk really makes a real difference, and we’re so grateful to everyone who gets involved. We are hoping to have even more of our community involved this year and sparkling through the streets of Cardiff this September in memory of loved ones.”
